The House of Representatives adopted Monday a fiscal year 2015 concurrent resolution on the CNMI government’s total projected resources of $170 million, of which $134 million is available for appropriations. It also paves the way for House Ways and Means Committee chair Rep. Tony Sablan (Ind-Saipan) to schedule hearings on 12 government agencies’ proposed 2015 budget.

House Concurrent Resolution 18-2, authored by Sablan, unanimously passed the House at past 4pm Monday. It was the only measure that the House acted on in Monday afternoon’s session, which resumed at 9:30am yesterday.

This comes over a month since Gov. Eloy S. Inos sent his proposed budget to the Legislature on April 1, covering the period from Oct. 1, 2014, to Sept. 30, 2015.

The Ways and Means Committee’s budget hearings will be from May 7 to 30, each starting at 9am.

The first hearing will be on the Department of Corrections’ budget today, May 7. This will be followed by the Department of Public Safety’s budget hearing tomorrow, May 8.

Next week’s budget hearings will be for the Public School System (May 13), Department of Public Lands (May 14), and Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. (May 15).

The following week will be hearings on the agency budgets of the following: Department of Finance (May 20), Department of Lands and Natural Resources (May 21), and Marianas Visitors Authority (May 22).

On the last week of May, the budget hearings will focus on these agencies: Department of Community and Cultural Affairs (May 27), Department of Public Works (May 28), Medical Referral (May 29), and Northern Marianas College (May 30).
