Hotel proposed at Kammer Beach
A Chinese investor is planning to build a $3-million, three-story, 138-room hotel along 8th Avenue and Kammer Beach in San Jose, Tinian.
The Tinian Hairui Real Estate Co. LLC is proposing to build and operate the Xingsha Hotel, which will have 112 parking spaces, a storage area, lobby and reception, snack bar, kitchen, and a dining area with 24 seats.
In a phone interview yesterday, He Guo Qiang, a representative of Tinian Hairui Real Estate Co. LLC, disclosed that the owner, Xingsheng Zhuang, decided to invest on Tinian due to the lack of hotel rooms on the island.
Zhuang first went to Tinian in 2014 or 2015 to look for business opportunities. He then leased a land on Tinian for a planned hotel, whose target guests are Chinese tourists.
Qiang said that Zhuang owns a hotel and a construction company in China.
Qiang said they are very happy with the support they got from many Tinian people during Tuesday’s public hearing at the Tinian Elementary School’s cafeteria.
The Division of Coastal Resources Management conducted the public hearing for Tinian Hairui Real Estate Co. LLC’s coastal application for a major siting permit.
Qiang said the hotel project is good for Tinian’s economy and will also benefit local workers.
In an interview last May, Tinian Mayor Edwin Aldan underscored the need to have more hotel rooms on the island. Right now, Tinian only has 52 rooms for tourists.
Aldan said that people from off-island and tourists usually just spend the day on the island, despite wanting to stay overnight, enjoy the sunset, and have dinner at the beach.
