Hotel occupancy rate at 84 pct. in April 2015

The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands reported 83.65 percent occupancy among 11 member-hotels for April 2015, a 10-percent increase compared to April 2014.

A total of 57,822 of 69,120 available room nights sold in April 2015, compared to 50,901 of 69,090 of available room nights sold over the same period last year. Room rates were $119.26 during the month, compared to $113.35 last March.

“As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, HANMI renews its commitment to the community and the local economy,” said HANMI chair Gloria Cavanagh. “We represent many corporate members that have proven their dedication and loyalty to the Commonwealth. In order to achieve and maintain a healthy economy, we must always remain diversified and flexible to global changes. As an association, we look forward to providing the backbone of our economy for the next 30 years.”

So far this calendar year, hotel occupancy is at an average 87.78 percent, about 1 percent higher than last year. However, average room rates have increased by 8 percent compared to the same period last fiscal year.
