Hotel occupancy at 78 percent in March 2012
The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands reported 78.39-percent occupancy among its 13 member hotels for March 2012, an 8-percent increase from March 2011.
A total of 60,630 of 77,345 available room nights sold in March 2012, compared to 54,540 of 77,500 of available room nights sold over the same period last year. Room rates were $93.55 during the month, compared to $89.47 last March.
“Not only are visitor arrivals up overall this year, but the March Saipan Marathon also continues to help boost occupancy,” said HANMI vice chair BK Park.
So far this calendar year, hotel occupancy is at an average 78.82 percent, just shy of the healthy industry indicator average of 80 percent and 4 percent higher than last year.
Meanwhile, HANMI is steaming ahead with plans for two of its major annual events, the May Taste of the Marianas International Food Festival & Beer Garden held along with the Marianas Visitors Authority, as well as the June 2 HANMI Charity Golf Tournament Classic at Mariana Country Club.
“Beyond the hotel industry’s financial contributions to the CNMI, we are looking forward to giving back to the community with these two events,” said Park.
