Hotel occupancy at 72 pct. in Oct., 83 pct. in Nov.

The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands reported 71.53 percent occupancy among 11 member hotels for October 2014, a .01-percent decrease compared to October 2013.

A total of 51,065 of 71,393 available room nights sold in October 2014, compared to 53,205 of 74,369 of available room nights sold over the same period last year. Room rates were $118.98 during the month, compared to $106.89 last October.

At the same time, HANMI reported 83.13 percent occupancy among 11 member hotels for November 2014, a 2-percent increase compared to November 2013.

A total of 57,462 of 69,120 available room nights sold in November 2014, compared to 56,071 of 69,360 of available room nights sold over the same period last year. Room rates were $114.59 during the month, compared to $105.90 last November.

“Thanks to the commencement of flights by Jeju Air from Korea and the continued strong performance of China, we were able to maintain occupancy rates in October and November,” said HANMI chair Nick Nishikawa. “We look forward to the restoration of direct charter flights from Russia in February to help ensure a healthy market mix of source countries for our local tourism economy.”

So far this calendar year, hotel occupancy is at an average 82.13 percent, 1 percent lower than the same period last year.
