Hotel occupancy at 23% in February 2022
The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands reported a 24% average occupancy rate among its 12 member-hotels for February 2022, compared to 5% average occupancy in February 2021.
A total of 9,767 of 41,093 available room nights sold during February 2022, compared to 1,853 of 34,849 available rooms in February 2021. Average room rates were $136.60 compared to $145.00 last February.
“The first phase of the Tourism Resumption Investment Plan Korea program ended in January and, coupled with the omicron surge, the Marianas experienced a dip in demand, which forced air carriers to scale back some flights,” said HANMI chair Ivan Quichocho. “The TRIP program is slated to transition to incentive-based flights in the months of March to May, provided it can pass all applicable government reviews and approvals.”
Quichocho also serves on the Marianas Visitors Authority board of directors and as chairman of the CNMI TRIP program.
Hotels included in HANMI’s monthly statistical report are Aqua Resort Club, Aquarius Beach Tower, Century Hotel, GrandVrio Resort Saipan, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Kanoa Resort Saipan, Kensington Hotel Saipan, LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort, Saipan World Resort, Surfrider Resort Hotel, and Pacific Islands Club Saipan. The occupancy rates do not include venue rentals at Kanoa Resort Saipan for government COVID-19 quarantine accommodations.
The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands was established in 1985 as a professional forum for the hospitality industry of the Marianas. HANMI also makes regular charitable donations to support non-profit organizations and tourism-related government projects. (PR)
