Hotel, NMTI partner in employing local workers
Chalan Kanoa Beach Hotel currently has four employees who’ve been trained by the Northern Marianas Technical Institute, and they are “looking for more,” according to the hotel’s assistant general manager, Noel Roque.
This is one reason why they donated on Friday a check worth $3,420.36 to NMTI to help support it in its efforts to provide the skills and trade education necessary to certify a local workforce.
NMTI’s education director Victorino Cepeda said their vision is to “train our local people” who otherwise have no job skills.
Their program will help “put them to work,” he said.
He said all 160 students who went through the training program are now at job sites.
He said NMTI wants to diversify the disciplines they offer, and hire more instructors to expand their nighttime program at Kagman High School into the other high schools.
Also in the works is CK Beach Hotel’s expansion of its facilities to include more rooms.
Brian P. Reyes of RPCF, Inc., consultants for CK Beach Hotel, cited the island’s high occupancy rate and the shortage of rooms on island that need to be addressed.
He said the expansion would take one to two years to finalize.
Crispin Santos, CK Beach Hotels’ HR and room division manager, described the employees they have hired from NMTI as “well-skilled.”
“NMTI is really helpful in providing local workers. So we want to help them,” said Santos.
