Hopwood wins 2nd place at Academic Bee Challenge Bowl

(Contributed Photo)  The five-person team from Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood Junior High School won second place at the 10th Annual Jr. High Academic Bee Challenge Bowl held at the Saipan Southern High School last Feb. 25.

The team first competed at individuals at the school level competition with a total of 39 competitors.  The members of the team are Masrur Alam, Mikhail Alcantara, Joshua Mendiola, Eliezha Mendoza, and Edna Nisola.

The team’s coaches are Carmelita Ada and Sharleen Crisostimo.  The team would like to thank their parents and families, principal, Jonas Barcinas, vice principals John Pialur and Epi Cabrera, their cohort team teachers and all AHGHJHS teachers and staff for their support, especially Victoria Nishida, Ruby Hocog and Freddy Salavaria.

Hopwood hails STEM Fair winners

Hopwood Junior High School also held its school level STEM Fair last Feb. 15.  The following students participated in the competition: Marvin Seman, Jamila Alegre, Panida Eitz, Dianne Sabino, Ilyssa Geronimo, Hannah  Hofschneider, Yea Rin Kwon, Angel Pamintuan, Mikayla Lopez, Mikhail Alcantara, Kyle Egan, Pan Rou Lun, Pauline Salazar, Rhea Banados, Fariha Omar, Vanessa Gramlich, Patrick Agustin, Chrystalle Lloren, Rhgen Puntilar, Myrnel Fukuichi, Tins Islam, Noshin Omar, Lee Yeji, Josephine Estrada, Djaymarch Ong, Jayrald Mercene, Robert Malate, Ezekiel Rafanan, Joshua Zulueta, and Ann Margaret Norcio.

First place went to Patrick Agustin. Second place was a three-way tie and went to Kyle Egan, Mikayla Lopez, and Ann Margaret Norcio. Third place went to Hannah Hofschneider.

Two honorable mentions went to Vanessa Gramlich and Ruo Lun Pan.  These seven top scoring students represented the school at the island-wide STEM Fair held at Saipan Southern High last March 3, 2012.  Congratulations to all the students.  Special thanks to their parents, guardians, and teachers for their support, to Mr. Jonas Barcinas, Mr. Brian Morris, and Ms. Livia Pangelinan for judging, all science teachers, AHGHJHS Journalism class, Mr. Freddy Salavaria, and Pacific Amusement Inc. for the beautiful trophies.
