Hopwood Middle School inducted 40 new members of the prestigious National Junior Honor Society last Saturday, Feb. 25, at the school cafeteria in Chalan Piao.

According to NJHS Hopwood Middle School chapter adviser Esco Anne Ulloa, the inductees shared their excitement about applying the five pillars of the National Junior Honor Society to their school experience and life in general.

One of the newly inducted sixth graders, Doreane Tudela, said, “My inspiration in joining NJHS is to make my parents proud and to build connections both in school and the community through service and citizenship.”

The event featured Felix Rabauliman as the inspirational guest speaker, who began his teaching career in 2009 at Hopwood Middle School where he was chosen to be the recipient of the prestigious Teacher of the Year award in 2012. Rabauliman curates the YouTube channel, “DanDan Marianas” and established the award-winning Hopwood Dance and Music Production, or HDMP.

NJHS president Jheams Sagana said that being president of National Junior Honor Society has shaped him into a better individual. “Many qualities are essential to become a president. This position taught me many things, including the value of leadership, dedication, and management. Being president has enabled me to express my ideas and opinions while improving my communication skills. I learned that, no matter how many challenges I encounter, I can work through and around them. I worked hard to establish myself as a role model and a shining example to those around me.”

The NJHS is an international student organization that consists of chapters in middle schools. NJHS elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. It is estimated that more than one million students participate in NJHS activities worldwide.

NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, U.S. territories, and around the world.
