The Chow Time-Blue Haus Homeboyz completed its Cinderella run in the Budweiser Cup by beating the 9 Eleven Titans II, 9-6, in the finals of the Saipan Billiards Association Thursday Open 8-Ball Thursday division postseason tournament.
The Homeboyz finished seventh in the eight-team field after the regular season, but battled its way in the knockout phase of the Budweiser Cup to emerge as champion. It made short work of the Tasha’s Extreme, 9-2, in the first phase of the knockout playoffs then followed it up with another masterful 9-2 decision against the 9 Eleven Jam Shooters before dispatching Titans II in the race-to-9 finals held last week.
The Homeboyz and Titans II played to a 4-4 tally in the first set of Partners and Singles events and the former moved ahead thanks to Nolan Cultura, Gian Flores, and Jeff Garcia as they disposed of Shane Quitugua, Ray Matsunaga, and Pat Cepeda in the next Singles matches. Quitugua and Bill Cepeda kept the title hopes of the Titans II as they defeated Flores and Cesar Sangalang in their respective matchups, wins that sandwiched Simeon Kapileo’s loss to Flores for an 8-6 count.
George Lizardo sealed the victory for the Homeboyz after he defeated Matsunaga in the final Singles 8 Ball game. Greg Deleon Guerrero was the other member of the Titans II that also played in the finals.
The Destroyers, another team supported by Chow Time and Blue Haus, ruled the Tuesday division after a 9-3 crushing of sister team Assassins in last week’s finals.
