The Hoe Lokahi Ladies canoe team finished strong down the home stretch during last month's 500-meter sprint finals held in the waters off Killili Beach. (Walter Sutherland)  The Hoe Lokahi Canoe Club’s June outrigger canoe races take place this Saturday starting at 8am in the waters off Killili Beach. Race events include a men’s, women’s, and mixed 500-meter sprint and 1,000-meter distance series.

Participants from the Saipan Outrigger Canoe Club and the Marianas Paddlers turned out for last month’s event. Mas Fatuul members are also welcome to field a crew.

Hoe Lokahi is putting on these events in preparation for the upcoming Micronesian Cup, scheduled for Oct. 27 and 28; they also hold weekly practice sessions

Hoe Lokahi is a Hawaiian term that translates into “paddle in harmony.”

The group was founded in 2010 and has competed in the anticipated Micronesian Cup event for the past two years.
