Acting governor Hocog signed into law Tinian Local Law 19-10 last Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016.

This local bill provides funding for the Municipality of Tinian and Aguiguan for important public programs.

This includes $1.1 million to pay the 25 percent retirement cut restoration as well as payments to satisfy the United States Geological Survey (USGS) judgment in United States v. Borja that recently led to the ceasing of casino local funds to begin paying the debt that dates back to a number of years.

Other programs funded by TLL 19-10 include the funding to support locally funded employees under the Office of the Mayor, the monthly subsistence allowance for patients of dialysis, cancer, multiple sclerosis, and other specified illnesses, payment of hotel accommodations for Tinian medical referral patients, and funding for the Tinian Municipal Scholarship Program.

“I would like to thank our Tinian Legislative Delegation for their work and support in passing this bill, as well as acting governor Hocog for signing the bill into law. The delegation and the honorable acting governor’s support gives us the funding source to address a debt to USGS as well as other critical programs for the people of Tinian,” said Mayor Joey P. San Nicolas.

“With cooperation and teamwork, Tinian will meet challenges head on and accomplish them,” he added.
