Hocog signs proclamation honoring Corrections officers and employees
Acting governor Victor B. Hocog yesterday signed a proclamation designating May 7-13, 2017 as CNMI Correctional and Employees Week.
Based on Proclamation 5187 signed by Ronald Reagan in 1984 creating “National Correctional Officers’ Week,” the proclamation gives the men and women of the CNMI Department of Corrections the recognition and honor for the contributions and accomplishments made by them.
The CNMI recognizes that Correction officers and employees are equal in status and importance with other professionals in the administration of justice. They are successful in providing effective correctional services and efficient programs to inmates and the community.
The proclamation also assured the public that no escapes, disturbance, or unrest occur in the Corrections facility by fostering a healthy environment for the inmates, treating them humanely, and making sure their needs are met.
It added that the CNMI Department of Corrections works under demanding circumstances, as its men and women face danger on a daily basis and constantly risks their lives by being exposed to potential harm. But even under such circumstances, they are able to perform their duties in the most professional and dedicated manner. (Bea Cabrera)
