Media in the region highlighted the direct airline service by Hong Kong’s low-fare airline, HK Express, from Hong Kong to Saipan, following the launch of service on Jan. 17, 2017.

Four Hong Kong newspapers and several online media featured the launch following a media roundtable held on Jan.16, 2017, in Hong Kong with HK Express executive chairman and president Jimmy Ma, director and CEO Andrew Cowen, Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Christopher A. Concepcion, and CNMI special assistant for administration Shirley Ogumoro.

“We’re excited for the new direct service, which provides more convenient travel at super low cost for visitors from both Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta in China,” said Concepcion. “The tourism industry is seeing an evolution in the way people are traveling the world with the increase of low cost carriers in Asia-Pacific and Europe. LCCs allow customers to pay for low airfare and hence spend more on hotels, dining and other ancillary services at their destination.”

Participating media were Hong Kong Economic Times, Ming Pao Daily News, Ta Kung Po, Oriental Daily News, and several popular online media. The coverage is valued at nearly $44,000.

HK Express now flies from Saipan to Hong Kong on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday, with return flights to Saipan on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. (MVA)
