High surf and small craft advisory
The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management reminded the public yesterday that a high surf advisory remains in effect until 6pm today, Friday.
According to the agency, a combination of east and north swell will produce hazardous surf along east and north facing reefs. Hazardous surf of 8 to 10 feet is expected along north facing reefs today, falling to hazardous at 7 to 9 feet through this afternoon. Surf will fall below hazardous levels to 6 to 8 feet by Friday evening.
Hazardous surf is projected to fall below hazardous levels to 8 to 11 feet by Friday morning.
A small craft advisory remains in effect until 6pm Friday.
Winds of 23 to 29 mph and combined seas of 11 to 12 feet will produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft. Winds will diminish to 17 to 23 mph by Friday but seas will remain hazardous through Friday afternoon.
Mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in these conditions. If travel by boat is necessary, exercise caution, especially near reef lines and when entering or leaving harbors and inlets. Avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches, especially those along north facing reefs as rip currents are life threatening. (PR)
