The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management warned yesterday of high surf that is projected to last until noon today, Thursday.

“A large north-northwest swell will cause hazardous surf on north and west facing reefs of the Marianas through Thursday morning. Hazardous surf should subside Thursday afternoon,” states the high surf advisory.

A small craft advisory for hazardous seas is also in effect until noon today. Hazardous surf ranging from 8 to 10 feet will continue on north and west facing shores. Surf should subside below hazardous levels Thursday afternoon as north swells diminishes.

Combined seas of 9 to 11 feet will make conditions hazardous to small craft through Thursday morning. Seas are expected to subside below hazardous levels by Thursday afternoon as the north swell diminishes.

Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels should avoid boating in these conditions. If travel by boat is necessary, exercise caution especially near reef lines and when entering or leaving harbors and inlets.
