High surf seen until tomorrow
Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center, a swell from a tropical disturbance east of the Marianas will produce hazardous surf the next couple of days.
A high surf advisory is now in effect until 6pm tomorrow, Thursday.
Hazardous surf at 7 to 10 feet is expected along north facing reefs. Hazardous surf at 7 to 9 feet will spread to west facing reefs today, Wednesday, and remain hazardous at 7 to 9 feet along north facing reefs.
A small craft advisory is also now in effect until midnight tonight.
A departing tropical disturbance will bring fresh to strong winds and combined seas of 9 to 11 feet today, producing hazardous conditions for small craft. Winds and seas are expected to diminish late tonight.
The public is being advised to avoid boating in these conditions. If travel by boat is necessary, exercise caution especially near reef lines and when entering or leaving harbors and inlets. Avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches, especially those along north and west facing reefs as rip currents will be life threatening. (HSEM)
