High surf expected until Thursday

Share

Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, light to gentle winds will gradually veer from northwest through northeast to southeast through Friday. Combined seas of 6 to 8 feet are expected through Thursday, then will gradually decrease. The monsoon trough will produce scattered showers north of Rota before slipping farther to the north. Isolated thunderstorms are possible.

The high surf advisory is now in effect until 3pm Thursday.

Hazardous surf of 9 to 12 feet will persist along west facing reefs through at least Wednesday. Surf will gradually diminish starting Wednesday night and may fall below hazardous levels as early as Thursday afternoon.

Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in these conditions. If travel by boat is necessary, avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches, especially those along west facing reefs as rip currents are life threatening. (PR)
