High surf until 5pm today
A large north-northwest swell produced by strong winds associated with a shear line will continue to cause hazardous surf in the region, according to the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, citing data from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam.
A high surf advisory remains in effect until 5pm today, Thursday.
Hazardous surf of 8 to 11 feet along north facing shores and 7 to 9 feet along west facing shores will persist through today. Hazardous surf should begin to slowly subside late today.
A small craft advisory is in effect through Thursday afternoon.
Fresh trade winds and combined seas of 8 to 11 feet will produce conditions hazardous for operators of small craft through today. Winds and seas should gradually subside starting tonight but then pick up again over the weekend.
The public, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in these conditions. If travel by boat is necessary, exercise caution especially near reef lines and when entering or leaving harbors and inlets. Do not venture near exposed reefs and beaches especially those along north and west facing reefs as rip currents will be life threatening. (HSEM)
