Help support the casino
I am writing in support of establishing a casino industry here on the island of Saipan. Casino is a very sensitive and a controversial issue, especially in a predominantly Catholic community.
Over the years, the people of Saipan have spoken strongly in opposition to the establishment of casino here in our island. However, as a retiree, the 25-percent cut in my pension has severely impacted me financially with my bank accounts, hospital bills, payment to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., and several others, to name a few.
I know that many of our people also share the same experiences and sufferings and so I invite you to joined me in supporting casino since it is the only venue for us to bring the needed revenues for our government.
Yes, indeed there were concerns with the original law in establishing a casino. However, those have been addressed by the amended law. I also disagree with the Lottery Commission’s decision to allow Marianas Star Entertainment Inc. back into the bidding process after rejecting their application. Allowing Marianas Star back into the competition is grounds for lawsuit should Best Sunshine International lose out in the selection process.
Let me close by urging our people to support a casino on Saipan for it is the only means of revenue generation for our government’s many financial constraints in the entire CNMI.
