Help your children become science ‘GENE-iuses’
The University of Guam College of Natural & Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s College of Tropical Agriculture & Human Resources’ GENE-ius Day Program, is establishing a children’s science program called, “Guam Gene-iuses.”
Guam Gene-iuses will encourage young students to explore more fully the world of science and help foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills while building an overall passion for science. Once the program gets going, students can enroll in a series of classes that will run every-other-week on Saturday. Each Saturday session will cover fun and exciting topics representing a wide range of science disciplines. Students will engage in hands-on experiments that will encourage scientific thinking.
Guam Gene-iuses’ first trial run on Saturday, April 22, Earth Day. A repeat of the first class will go on for the next one or two consecutive Saturdays (April 29 and May 6) as needed.
Topic:
The lab will be covering the topic of cells and will be taught in a college laboratory setting.
Who can attend?
Only children in 4th through 6th grade attending a public or private school. Limited to 20 students per session.
Dates:
Two sessions area available on Saturday, April 22, 2017.
Morning: 10am-12noon and afternoon 2pm-4pm.
Location:
Agricultural & Life Sciences building in the University of Guam campus, Mangilao.
Cost:
There is no cost for the first class. Water will be provided.
