I hear you

Two storms came by and one knocked down power lines. Although power went out for about two to three days, we are fortunate no one got hurt. Carrying pails of water for shower will only test my strength if my youth is still with me. Despite what we believe is stressful, we should be mindful this is nothing compared to other catastrophes in other parts of the world.

Even without a storm, there are homes without power or water. I shouldn’t complain as my issues are just crumbs compared to what other people face. I’ve seen people going the extra mile providing electricity and water to their neighbors. That’s the CNMI I know. That’s the CNMI I love. Our hearts are bigger than our pockets and we should leave it at that.

Even before the storm, I see puddles large enough to be called lakes. I see potholes large enough to be called craters. Shut-off street lights enough to be called a blackout. These are the many things that our leaders promised every two years. The problem is, you can’t play a record on a modern CD player. The rhetoric heard over loudspeakers means nothing after Nov. 4. All goes silent after that. Common sense will tell you that you don’t have to fix everything all at once. At the very least, one accomplishment is good enough every two years. Call it a breakthrough if you will.

When you or someone you know has done good in the community by helping others, pat them on the back or shake their hand. In closing, I would like to thank those few individuals for taking their time stopping to help the homeless woman in front of Mt. Carmel Cathedral holding up a sign. Thank you and God bless!
