Health forum to focus on sexual health

The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s Division of Public Health Services would be hosting a Gay Men’s Health Forum on Dec. 20 2018, beginning at 5:30pm at the Aqua Resort Club.
According to CHCC, 51 percent of all human immunodeficiency virus infections, or HIV infections, in 2017 were acquired through men-on-men sex, also referred to as MSM.
HIV is a lentivirus, a type of virus that causes deadly diseases as time passes. HIV eventually develops into Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, or AIDS, and the speed with which it turns into AIDS depends on the treatment of HIV.

“The goal of the forum is to ask participants from the gay community to provide recommendations and insight on how to effectively reach out to men who have sex with men about their health,” a CHCC statement said.

The forum will have a presentation on the health risks of men who have sex with men for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases; health recommendations from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and a demonstration of HIV rapid testing.

Seats to the forum are limited. The last day to register was yesterday.
