Thanks to the help of Hawaii state Sen. Glenn Wakai through REPAC, 10 pallets of books have been donated to the NMI’s state library, Joeten Kiyu Public Library.

REPAC is a Hawaii non-profit organization that sends educational and medical supplies to Micronesia.

According to JKPL executive director John Gonzales, he will be enlisting a commercial mover to transport the books to JKPL and have the staff properly view what can be circulated to the public and what can be packed up and donated to key community partners, both locally and regionally.

During a photo briefing of hospital beds at the hospital’s storeroom in Lower Base, Saipan Tribune found more than 10 boxes of books on each pallet.

Gonzales said that JKPL is eternally grateful to REPAC and their good friend, Wakai.

“Because even though he left Saipan as a former resident, he continues to demonstrate admiration for our people and the islands he once called home,” Gonzales said.

According to Gonzales, this was not the first contribution from the organization.

“Two years ago through REPAC, JKPL became the clearinghouse for access to resources and assets for optimum public use,” he said.

During that time, JKPL donated surplus shelves and books to their local partners that included Dandan Elementary School, Hopwood Junior High School, and Marianas High School.

“Now we are looking forward to sharing the latest contributions with local partners in order to meet their informational and recreational needs, which is in line with JKPL’s mission and vision,” Gonzales said.

Wakai, through REPAC, also donated hospital beds and equipment this week to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.
