Happy birthday, Mr. President

Aug. 4 is President Obama’s birthday, and we wish him well in health and sanity in the White House.

His recent interview Aug. 1 made him sound to a friend like “Ted Nugent on hand guns” in his foreign policies regarding Russia and China. He is quoted as saying that Russia does not produce anything (generally right), and Putin goes for short-term objectives for political gain without a sense of the longtime consequences of his choices (heavy critique, and though not a Putin fan myself, Obama might have just overstated his case).

Then he goes ahead and advices America to be wary of China’s ascent in the global market, as China reaching that pre-eminence only makes it a danger to the world. Not coincidentally, China revealed that it does have the missile capability to deliver nuclear warheads to the U.S. mainland, a capability it had heretofore denied.

With a U.S. spy plane smart enough to go into Swedish airspace when it noticed itself being tracked by land-based Russian radar, and given the numerous occasions U.S. intelligence had been caught lying, including faked satellite photos that was used to justify the Iraqi War (Google Washington Blog for other shenanigans), we can only say that as long as the Obama firepower stays at the level of political rhetoric, and keep the finger off the trigger (Ted Nugent who is a Michigan native can keep hunting in his Texas ranch but he can’t remain NRA’s poster boy for so long), we will not sweat in our seat.

So, OK, let’s beef up U.S. military security in the Marianas (the area’s economic source) but let’s keep the 7th Fleet from crossing the Taiwan Straits again, just to show off the “kooks.” They ain’t kooks no more, Mr. President, and you ain’t Ted Nugent!
