HANMI: Occupancy rate at 82 pct in May
The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands reported 81.92 percent occupancy among 11 member hotels for May 2015, an 8-percent increase compared to May 2014.
HANMI said 58,487 of 71,393 available room nights sold in May 2015, compared to 52,900 of 71,393 of available room nights sold over the same period last year. Room rates were $123.88 during the month, compared to $114.39 last May.
“Hotel occupancy is higher, room rates are higher. This is all goods news for the Northern Marianas economy,” said HANMI chair Gloria Cavanagh. “The formula works. We must keep funding the Marianas Visitors Authority adequately for promotions, keep our market diversification and shore up weaker markets like Japan, keep investing in destination enhancement, and keep existing businesses in business while we pursue new opportunities.”
So far this calendar year, hotel occupancy is at an average 86.60 percent, 2 percent higher than last year. Additionally, average room rates have increased by 7 percent compared to the same period last fiscal year.
