The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands reported a 55% average occupancy rate among its 11 member-hotels for February 2020. The figure reflects a 39% decrease for HANMI hotels compared to February 2019 and a 30% decrease of total rooms sold.

A total of 39,406 of 71,233 available room nights sold during the month, compared to 56,394 of 62,370 available room night sold in February 2019. Average room rates were $153.35 compared to $190.42 last February.

“Visitors arrivals in February were already starting to show the effect of COVID-19, and now in March we are seeing the single digit occupancy rates at many of our hotels,” said HANMI chair Gloria Cavanagh. “Hopefully, our members will be able to take advantage of economic disaster aid. In the meantime, we have done our best to batten down the hatches and weather this storm with our employees and with our community.”

Hotels included in HANMI’s monthly statistical reports are Aqua Resort Club, Aquarius Beach Tower, Century Hotel, GrandVrio Resort Saipan, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Kanoa Resort Saipan, Kensington Hotel Saipan, Laolao Bay Golf & Resort, Saipan World Resort, and Pacific Islands Club Saipan.

HANMI was established in 1985 as a professional forum for the hospitality industry of The Marianas. HANMI also makes regular charitable donations to support non-profit organizations and tourism-related government projects. (PR)
