Go-Kart racing will be at its finest on Saipan this Sunday, April 6, with the staging of the Budweiser Go Kart Championship at the Mariana Seaside Circuit of Mariana Resort & Spa.
The race is being organized by the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Set as one of HANMI’s signature events, the Budweiser Go-Kart Championship is open to go kart aficionado who can form a team of four individuals (3 drivers and 1 captain).

Registration fee is $300 per team. Opening ceremony is at 8am, while the race begins at 9am. There is no age limit and participants are required to submit a copy of their valid driver’s license. Racers who are under 18 and don’t have a license must have consent forms signed by their parents or guardians.

“It is open to the public but those underage need to sign the waiver form from and get signatures from their parents,” Go-Kart Committee member Carlos Rivera said.

Prizes at stake are $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second place, and $500 for third place.

Raffle drawings will also be held and the winning prizes are two round-trip tickets to Japan.

Mariana Seaside Circuit, which opened to the public in April 1998, features 18 turns or corners.

Rivera encourages kart race enthusiasts to register early because 16 teams have already registered for the event and they need at least 18 to 20 teams. Deadline for registration is April 3, Thursday.

According to Go-Kart Committee chair William Retardo, all of the event’s proceeds will go to HANMI.

“The reason we are hosting this event is for people to enjoy, and Marianas Resort has a good race track so we can make use of it. The funding will also go to the community through donations. This event is for people to enjoy and like all other sports event we host, it’s for the community,” said HANMI president Nick Nishikawa.
