To help spread holiday cheer to community members still in recovery from Super Typhoon Yutu, the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands donated $20,000 in holiday meals gift certificates on Dec. 14 to the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter.

The vouchers are being distributed by ARC to families they are serving, individuals still living in shelters, and Karidat Social Services for further distribution.

“HANMI is very pleased to partner with the American Red Cross on this holiday meal giveaway for members of our community who need it the most,” said HANMI chair Gloria Cavanagh. “While many residents have recovered, or largely recovered, from the immediate impact of Super Typhoon Yutu, there are others who have been struggling for nearly two months now and who will still have a long road of recovery ahead. We’re happy to be able to offer them a nice meal at one of our participating hotel restaurants through this program, and we hope that this small mental break will help lift their spirits a bit this holiday season.”

The 1,000 vouchers are each worth a full buffet or $20 toward ala carte as indicated. Participating restaurants are World Café, World Café Terrace, MAI Teppanyaki, and Tasty Burger (Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan); Dolphin Restaurant (GrandVrio Resort Saipan); Kili Café & Terrace breakfast and lunch (Hyatt Regency Saipan); The Grill (Laolao Bay Golf & Resort); and Magellan’s and The Galley (Pacific Islands Club Saipan).

Additional participating restaurants not listed on the gift certificates are Costa Terrace Café (Aqua Resort Club) and Isla Café lunch on Mondays-Saturdays (Kanoa Resort).

“We are extremely grateful for the thoughtful and generous donation from HANMI. These vouchers will provide a special break and holiday meal for families most impacted by Typhoon Yutu” said John Hirsh, ARC-NMI Chapter executive director, in accepting the donation.
The gift certificates are valid through Feb. 10, 2019.
HANMI was established in 1985 as a professional forum for the hospitality industry of the Marianas. HANMI also makes regular charitable donations to support non-profit organizations and tourism-related government projects. (HANMI)
