The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands has designated Marianas Tourism Education Council and 500 Sails as the primary beneficiaries of the 21st Annual HANMI Charity Classic Golf Tournament on July 15, 2023, at Lao Lao Bay Golf & Resort west course.

MTEC is a non-profit organization committed to educating the Marianas community, especially school children, about the Marianas tourism industry.

“On behalf of the MTEC board of directors, we are pleased to partner with the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands’ upcoming golf tournament,” said MTEC acting chair Vicky Benavente. “These are challenging times for the CNMI’s tourism industry, but we’re certain that everyone can contribute in one way or another to help us through these difficult situations.”

500 Sails is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the maritime traditions of the Mariana Islands.

“500 Sails is thrilled to be selected as one of the beneficiaries of the 21st Annual HANMI Charity Classic Golf Tournament,” said 500 Sails managing director Kuen-Hee Han. “As 500 Sails works to revive, promote, and preserve the maritime cultural traditions of the Mariana Islands through community engagement in canoe culture and activities, we look toward our partners in HANMI to be our anchors in welcoming our guests. We are honored to be chosen and look forward to forging a stronger relationship with HANMI in the days ahead.”

The tournament will be open to the first 144 paid registrants. Registration forms will be available next month at LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort for payment.

“The Marianas Tourism Education Council and 500 Sails are two important partners of the tourism industry that we are pleased to support with our tournament this year,” said HANMI chair Ivan Quichocho. “MTEC plays an active role in engaging young people at the schools with the message that, ‘Tourism is Everybody’s Business.’ And 500 Sails plays an important and growing role in providing the authentic cultural experiences that today’s visitor is expecting when they travel. We salute their work.”

The tournament’s popular blackjack double Peoria format will return. The early bird tournament fee is $150 and includes optional play this year, as well a green fee and the awards luncheon. The fee increases to $170 after the early bird deadline on Friday, July 2, at 5pm. Option play will include accurate drive (hole No. 9) and four chances for nearest to the pin (holes Nos. 3, 7, 13, and 17). Showtime is 6am and the tournament will start at 7am.

Sponsor packages include Hole-in-One, Presidential Suite, Deluxe, Superior, VIP and In-kind, providing various levels of complimentary player slots, and publicity and marketing.
