500 Sails will open the Guma Sakman (canoe house) in June, together with the launch of its first sailing canoe, the Chamorro sakman called Neni.
Both celebrations will take place on Saturday, June 3, from 1pm to 5pm at the Guma Sakman, on the beach directly across the Marianas High School in Susupe. The Guma Sakman is the newly renovated former 4-H building, located next to where the Sabalu Market is held on Saturday mornings.
The grand opening is a great opportunity to have some fun, watch traditional dancers, listen to local music, and mix with the growing community of people involved in traditional maritime activities on and in the water. Parking is easy, or if you’re paddling in, there is plenty of room for your canoe or kayak on the beach. Tank swimmers are encouraged to bring goggles and bright swim caps.
The public is invited the public to join the festivities.
