U.S. District Court for the NMI designated Judge John C. Coughenour accepted yesterday the guilty plea of one of six defendants in a CW-1 scam case.

On Monday, Zeaur Rahman Dalu pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud in foreign contracting. He will be sentenced on Dec. 22, 2017.

Dalu had been charged with one count of mail fraud and two counts of fraud in foreign labor contracting.

The jury trial of Dalu’s five co-defendants will start on Tuesday, Aug. 15.

According to the U.S. government, the defendants collected large amounts of money—roughly between $15,000 and $20,000—from each of 12 victims, all of them Bangladeshi nationals, in exchange for promises of jobs that didn’t exist.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Judge Heather L. Kennedy has amended the release conditions of Xiufang Qi, a staff of Beilida Overseas who is among five persons who’ve been indicted for allegedly harboring aliens who worked at the Imperial Pacific’s casino project in Garapan.

Kennedy said Qi may seek the permission of the U.S. Probation Office if she wants to exercise.

Qi, through counsel, had asked the court to allow her some freedom so she could take care of personal matters during the day.

According to her counsel, Qi has been essentially under “house arrest” with electronic monitoring and has complied with the conditions of her pre-trial release.

The U.S. government opposed her request.

Her jury trial is scheduled on Oct. 31, 2017.
