Guerrero wins Amigo June Ace

After finishing last month’s two-round June Ace at the Kingfisher Golf Links tied with Joe Tudela, Terry Guerrero posted a gross 41 last Sunday on the front nine of the same course to come away with the Amigo Golf Club’s monthly spoils.

Sunday’s round was actually Amigo’s July Ace qualifier, but since the pair was tied after last month’s square off with overall net scores of 163, they duked it out on the front nine to see who will be last month’s coveted ace golfer.

Other members that turned out for the event attested that both June finalists were all business from the start and in full concentration.

Guerrero and Tudela were paired together last Sunday and both got off to good starts with solid pars on hole No. 1.

Guerrero followed with another par on hole No. 2, while Tudela settled for a bogey.

Tudela attacked hole No. 3, but ended up with a double bogey, which enabled Guerrero to take a two-stroke lead.

Then the course beckoned on holes No. 4 and 5 as the couple scratched a pair of triple bogeys.

Both golfers regrouped on hole No. 7, but Guerrero bested Tudela again with a clutch birdie putt to put her three strokes in front.

Tudela finished holes No. 7, 8, and 9 with a par, bogey, and a double bogey and finished with a gross core of 45, but could not catch Guerrero who finished the front side four strokes ahead with a bogey, a par, and a bogey on hole No. 9 for a gross total of 41.

After the handicap adjustment, Guerrero swiped the glory with a 30.5 net score, while Tudela ended up with a net card of 39.

Guerrero’s fellow golfers observed how well she kept herself calm throughout the round. She was definitely on a mission on Sunday and did a good job keeping her eye on the prize.

Ten other golfers participated in Sunday’s July qualifier round, which resulted in top honors going to Felix Sasamoto, who completed the round with a respectable 84 gross that adjusted into a field-low 65 net score.

Right behind him came Danny Quitugua, who shot a 41 on the front and finished the back side with a 39 for an even 80 gross total that worked into a 66 net tally.

Third place finisher John Matsumoto penciled in a 45 on the front nine and charged home on the back with a 41 for an 84 gross total that was shaved down to a 68 net score.

Other notables included Shirley Jones (89 gross) and Frank Sablan (81 gross) who ended up with net counts of 73.

Amigo’s July Ace final round is scheduled for July 22 at the Kingfisher Golf Links.

There are over 20 active Amigo members and new players are always welcome.
