Four Chinese media outlets spent Christmas in the Marianas on a FAM tour that had an unexpected outcome prompted by the spirit of the holidays.

The group included representatives of Guangdong Radio and TV station, FM 99.3 radio, Yangcheng Evening News, and Modern weekly magazine.

While on Saipan the group had a full schedule of activities, including a party hosted by Tinian Dynasty Holiday and Saipan Travel Inc. on Christmas Eve with indigenous Chamorro performers at Mariana Resort & Spa, where one of the Chinese tourists made an impromptu marriage proposal to his girlfriend.

“It was a great surprise that he proposed to his girlfriend during the party,” said Marianas Visitors Authority Guangzhou Office travel trade manager Tammy Sun, who accompanied the group during their tour. “He hadn’t planned ahead of time to propose, but after he saw our decorations for the Christmas party and the warm and sweet atmosphere, he thought it was great timing. Of course, she said yes!”

The group also interviewed MVA managing director Perry Tenorio as part of their coverage.

“We talked about the destination, our accessibility to China, and the importance of the Chinese market to the Northern Marianas,” said Tenorio. “I also mentioned some of our annual signature events, and they had a strong interest in the Saipan Marathon slated for April 16, 2016.”

While on Saipan the group also took a tour of the scenic and historic sites of Marpi, a jungle tour, a self-driving tour, an aerial discovery tour, a tour of Managaha with water sports, a skydiving tour, a submarine tour, and an ATV tour of Mt. Tapochau.

“Actually, it was a raining day when we rode the ATVs, but we had fun comparing who could spatter more mud,” said Sun.

During their visit, the FAM tour group lodged at Saipan World Resort and dined at several establishments offering various cuisines: Happiness Restaurant, Hard Rock Café Saipan, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Xin De Xi, and Monster Pizza. (MVA)
