Guam, military law enforcement showcase capabilities
BARRIGADA, Guam—Law enforcement personnel from Guam’s military, federal, local and private agencies gathered to celebrate Police Week during a static display and demonstration in Barrigada on May 13.

The event, hosted by the Guam Police Department, demonstrated how each agency contributes to the overall protection and safety of the island community to local and military students.
“The reason we want to focus on our children is based on our theme that we want to set the foundation for today’s youth, tomorrow’s leaders,” said event coordinator Sgt. Cecil Sulla, GPD. “We wanted to invite all law enforcement entities here [in] Guam to come and showcase and interact with the children and show them what the possibility of law enforcement is so maybe one day it could influence them.”
Coastal Riverine Group 1 Det. Guam, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 5, and U.S. Naval Base Guam and Andersen Air Force Base security forces participated in the event and showcased their capabilities to the public.
Master-at-Arms 1st Class (SW) Isaiah Douglas, NBG Security, said he was happy to take part in the event because it gave island school children a firsthand look at military law enforcement.
“We’ve been working with GPD for the last two years with these types of events so we can build a bond, so if something happens we can lean on them [and] if something happens our way, they can lean on us,” he said. “It’s to build camaraderie.”
CRG-1 sailors interacted with students and explained various weapons they use when carrying out missions.
Master-at-Arms 2nd Class (EXW) Ashley Ferrell, CRG-1 Det. Guam, said her command attended the event to foster the bond between the local and military communities.
“We just want to show Guam that we’re here and that we love this place,” she said. “We wanted to show that we care for [the island].”
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. The week in which that date falls is known as Police Week and is celebrated annually throughout the United States to honor those who sacrifice for the protection of our nation’s citizens.
