Guam Guard soldiers to mobilize today

A mobilization ceremony will be held today, Jan. 3, beginning at 2:30pm, at the Guard’s Readiness Center, in Barrigada, to transition soldiers to active duty status.

In August 2018, the Guam National Guard received a Department of the Army activation order to provide security forces to Task Force Talon on Andersen Air Force Base, Yigo, Guam.

Task Force Talon is responsible for operating the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense in Guam. The THAAD is an anti-ballistic missile defense system designed to shoot down short-, medium-, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles in their terminal phase (descent or reentry) by intercepting with a hit-to-kill approach.

While these Guam Guard soldiers, or Task Force Guahan, will not be leaving the island, they will be transitioned and assigned to Task Force Talon leadership during this one-year mission in Guam. This active-duty status will result in a positive economic impact for their families and the island.

As always, the Guard asks the public for their continued support as this mobilization will also have a significant impact on the Guam National Guard.

“We want to thank the people of Guam, especially the employers, for their continued support of our members and their families,” said Maj. Gen. Roderick R. Leon Guerrero, The Adjutant General of the Guam National Guard. “We still have airmen who are currently deployed or will be departing for deployments in the coming weeks. Please keep all our members in your thoughts and prayers now and for the duration of their missions.”.

Due to recent suspension of Trusted Traveler Program, no one will be allowed into Readiness Center unless they are on a preapproved list. (PR)
