Guam Guard member hurt in off-island accident
A member of the Guam Army National Guard, who is participating in off-island training, was injured in a hit-and-run accident in Lexington, Kentucky.
According to an article in the Lexington Herald Leader, “a Lexington firefighter has been charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, first degree assault and driving without insurance, after allegedly backing his SUV through the front of the building, critically injuring a customer on Euclid Ave., in Lexington, KY., Saturday afternoon.”
“We are very concerned about the well-being of Capt. Noel Espino. This is a very unfortunate incident and we will do whatever we can to ensure he, and his family, is taken care of while he is recovering,” said Maj. Gen. Benny M. Paulino, the Adjutant General of the Guam National Guard.
The Guam National Guard has been in close contact with Espino’s family since the incident and is closely monitoring the situation. There are several other members of the Guam National Guard attending training in the same location; however, no other members were injured in the accident.
Paulino has also been communicating with Maj. Gen. Edward W. Tonini, The Adjutant General of the Kentucky National Guard, since the incident. “He has pledged to provide whatever assistance and resources we need to ensure Capt. Espino and his family are taken care of at this time,” said Paulino. “For now, we ask the public to pray for him and his family that he makes a speedy recovery.” (GUANG)
