Guam Guard celebrates 204th Army birthday with cake cutting ceremony
The Guam Army National Guard celebrated the 240th birthday of the United States Army with a Cake Cutting Ceremony last at the Guard’s Readiness Center in Barrigada.
More than 200 soldiers and airmen sang Happy Birthday and the Army Song as the cake was cut to celebrate 240 years of selfless service to the nation.
Colonel C. Scott Mitchell, Commander, 196th Infantry Brigade; Private First Class Keoni Wong, the youngest soldier; Brig. Gen. Roderick Leon Guerrero, the Adjutant General of the Guam National Guard; Chaplain (MAJ) Richard Kelley, the oldest soldier; and Carl Petersen, the Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, cut the cake in celebration of the U.S. Army’s 240th Birthday, during a ceremony at the Guard’s Readiness Center in Barrigada last week. Selfless service is at the core of what it means to be a soldier—putting the welfare of others ahead of oneself. The willingness of our soldiers—to place themselves in harm’s way and to protect our nation’s freedoms—is what makes us the premier all-volunteer force. The Army has served proudly, faithfully, and selflessly for 240 years, and we remain steadfast in our commitment.
“The Guam Army National Guard would not have had its history of success without the support of our families and the local communities. We continue to thank and appreciate the support and sacrifice that our families, employers and the community provided and continue to provide here on Guam,” said Brig. Gen. Roderick Leon Guerrero, the Adjutant General of the Guam National Guard.
