BARRIGADA, Guam—On behalf of the Guam National Guard, Maj. Gen. Esther Aguigui hosted a farewell ceremony for Rear Adm. John Menoni at the Barrigada Readiness Complex on May 24.

In addition to an original poetry reading, Aguigui presented Menoni with a Guam Commendation Medal, a handmade galaide model and other various gifts, to thank him for his service, mentorship, and friendship over the past 18 months as the Commander of Joint Region Marianas.

“I’m happy that I’m leaving, because I get to be with my family, but I’m also really sad, because I’m leaving a place that I love. This is a place that I truly love.  It is a second home to me. The people are my brothers and sisters, my family and friends. It’s a place where I grew up not only as an officer and as a father, but as a man. I will always remember Guam, and I will always remember what the Guam Guard has done for the United States.  Thank you so much,” said Menoni.

Menoni has served four missions on Guam spanning eight years. (Guam National Guard Public Affair)
