Guam employers to be honored with DOD awards
In an effort to support local businesses that employ members of the National Guard and Reserve members, the Guam-CNMI Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve will hold an Employer Awards Recognition Luncheon to honor employers, for extraordinary support of its employee-service members who service in the National Guard and Reserve, during a recognition ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 10:30a, at the Sheraton Guam.
This event, themed “We all Serve,” continues to reign true, especially in regards to employers in Guam. “It’s fitting that it is done on the anniversary of the 9-11 attacks on America,” said David Sablan, state chair of the ESGR Guam-CNMI Committee. “Employers have sacrificed to allow their employees to serve in the Guard and Reserve and protect our island and nation.”
ESGR is a Department of Defense agency, established in 1972, under the auspices of the Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain active support from all public and private employers for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve by advocating relevant initiatives, recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts between employers and service members.
The Department of Defense Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve. These outstanding employers were nominated by their Reserve Component employee for being highly supportive. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”
By law, employers must hold jobs for men and women who serve in the Guard and Reserve when they get called to duty. This allows service members to focus on the mission so they can safely return back home.
Over 200 of Guam’s outstanding and supportive employers were invited to this recognition luncheon where they will receive their awards, a small gift and enjoy a great meal. (ESGR)
