The Guam Department of Corrections last June 30 completed its internal affairs investigation into the escape of detainee Meisy Aliwis on May 16, 2015.

Internal affairs investigation’s preliminary findings placed nine people on administrative leave pending the disposition of the case due to their assigned responsibilities at the post where Aliwis was housed.

As the investigation continued, one officer was cleared of wrongdoing and the remaining eight officers were served notices of proposed adverse action, which resulted in the following—one officer resigned, five officers were suspended for 10 days beginning June 30, and two officers were terminated effective June 30.

The director and the deputy director of the Department of Corrections continue to affirm that any improprieties, professional misconduct or criminal conduct that occurs within the Department will be dealt with accordingly and all individuals will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
