DEDEDO, Guam—Guam Regional Medical City was recently awarded “2023 Best Off-Base Medical Service in the Pacific” by Stars and Stripes newspaper. This marks the second year in a row that GRMC received this award.

Douglas Johnson, an executive from the Stars and Stripes Pacific Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, recently visited GRMC to present the award to the entire GRMC executive team.

GRMC president and CEO Alan Funtanilla said, “It is truly an honor to have won this award two years in a row, especially since we didn’t even know that we were selected by Stars & Stripes to be a candidate in the competition. GRMC is a devoted partner of the U.S. military, and we will continue to provide world class healthcare for our military and veteran communities as GRMC has established itself as the region’s acute care hub for specialty care.”

According to their website, the Stars and Stripes is a multimedia news bureau that aims to provide first-hand reporting on news and information worldwide to the U.S. military community, including service members, civilians, veterans, contractors, and their families. Stars and Stripes Pacific annually polls members of military communities throughout the Pacific on the best local facilities, services, and destinations on and off base. The annual poll results, titled “Best in the Pacific,” are then shared with daily edition subscribers and U.S. military bases throughout the Pacific. (PR)
