Govt veterinary clinic reopens
The government’s veterinary clinic reopened yesterday under the supervision of state veterinarian Ignacio T. Dela Cruz.
Dela Cruz has been working as the CNMI government state veterinarian since April 1978. He retired in December 1994. In 1998 he was rehired before being appointed in 2006 as secretary of Lands and Natural Resources where he stayed for five years, then last Sunday he received an excepted service employment contract, bringing him back into the veterinary clinic.
The Animal Health Clinic is located in As Perdido. Before Oct. 26, the clinic was inoperable for about two years.
The office will be open this week from Wednesday to Friday from 8am to 11am then 1pm to 4pm. Subsequently starting next week, the clinic will only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am to 11am then 1pm to 4pm until further notice.
“At this time, we only have the medicine for de-worming and treating pets with ticks and mange. However, I’ll be placing orders for other veterinary supplies and vaccines to help treat other important island related diseases,” Dela Cruz said.
According to Dela Cruz, farm animals such as cows, goats, pigs, etc., are allowed into the clinic for treatment.
As to how much he will charge, Dela Cruz said, “There will be a nominal charge; it will be very affordable.”
Due to limited supplies, the clinic can also refer a patient’s owner to stores to purchase certain medicinal products that can cure their pet’s ailment. Moreover, animals strictly from the U.S. territories are preferred instead of exotic creatures.
