The government is continuing road improvements throughout Saipan, the latest of which is a road-marking and signage project in Route 37 (Chalan Monsignor Martinez Road) and Route 321 (Santa Lourdes Road).

In a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday morning, Lt. Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres said the project is part of the government’s “islandwide” improvement.

“Today marks our ongoing efforts to improve our island’s road-marking and signage upgrades,” Torres, in a prepared speech, said. “The completion of the upgrades is scheduled before Thanksgiving.”

Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang said the road-marking and signage project “is important for motorists and pedestrians” from the nearby communities.

According to the project contract information sheet, the project will be managed by the Department of Public Works, with private firm Big Bell, Inc. as the construction contractor.

Funding of $298,619 will come from the Federal Highway Administration.

The project includes rehabilitation of road markings, upgrade of traffic signage, and road-shoulder reconditioning.
