Sixteen lawyers are interested to fill up the vacant judge’s position in the Superior Court, according to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres.

In an interview, Torres disclosed that hopefully he should come out with a nominee within a month.

“We’re continuing to look for interested candidates and I continue to talk to more interested potential nominees,” the governor said.

Torres revealed that 16 lawyers expressed interest, including those who are currently off-island but previously worked in the Commonwealth.

He said a couple of lawyers from Tinian are interested too, but have not officially informed him about their intent to serve.

Torres said he is looking at a lawyer who has vast experience and has ability to treat case with impartiality, among other characters of a good judge.

Asked if his brothers and sister are among the interested lawyers, the beaming Torres said his lawyer siblings are not on the list.

The governor’s four siblings—Joaquin, Judy, Victorino, and Vincent—are currently working in their law firm Torres Brothers LLC.

An associate judge’s position has been vacant when David A. Wiseman retired last May 20 after serving 15 years on the bench.
