Gov. Eloy S. Inos and his running mate, Senate President Ralph DLG. Torres, got an additional boost for this Friday’s runoff election from the CNMI’s southern neighbor after Guam Gov. Eddie B. Calvo and three former governors of the U.S. territory endorsed the NMI Republican Party tandem.

“As governors, we recognize that every decision we make will have a dramatic impact on the wellbeing of our constituents. We also recognize that the voters have placed an enormous amount of trust in us to ensure that their government provides services and support in a professional expedited manner. All of us have come to know Gov. Inos very well over the last 30-plus years and we can all say that there is no one better suited to being governor than Eloy S. Inos,” read a letter from Calvo and former Guam governors Felix P. Camacho, Paul M. Calvo, and Joseph F. Ada.

Calvo and company said Inos always made an effort to put people’s interest first since coming into office in February 2013.

“He did not rest in his efforts to return the retirees’ hard-earned pensions. He will not stop in identifying solutions to the problems with your energy and healthcare systems. We are very happy to have the opportunity to endorse his election as governor and look forward to working with him for another four years.”

The four also said that Inos’ continuing effort to bring prosperity to the people of the CNMI has shown that he truly is a man of the people.

“We humbly ask that all the citizens of the CNMI vote for Gov. Inos and Sen. Ralph Torres in this upcoming runoff election,” Calvo and company said in conclusion.

Inos said he is humbled and honored to have received such a letter of endorsement from Calvo and the three former governors of Guam

“They are true statesmen and Ralph and I look forward to working with them in the coming years,” he said in an email to Saipan Tribune.

Inos and Torres also received endorsements yesterday from local officials: Sen. Joaquin Borja (Ind-Tinian), Rep. Trenton Conner (Ind-Tinian), Rep. Christopher Leon Guerrero (Ind-Saipan), and Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council chair Ramon B. Camacho.

“I have served with Sen. Ralph and he has the experience, knowledge, and passion needed to be our lieutenant governor. Ralph and Eloy are the only candidates I trust to lead our Commonwealth,” said Borja.

Conner, for his part, said: “I know all four candidates personally and Gov. Inos and Sen. Torres are the only ones that can keep our economy moving forward.”

“As chairman of the Saipan [and Northern Islands] Municipal Council, I have worked with Gov. Inos and Sen. Torres. I see the passion they have for the Commonwealth and am honored to support their candidacy for governor and lieutenant governor,” Camacho said.

Leon Guerrero said: “I have been honored to work with Sen. Torres and Gov. Inos during my time in the Legislature. They have never shied away from fighting for the people. They did not sit back and watch while the Retirement Fund was on the verge of bankruptcy. They found a solution and delivered real results!”

Inos said he’s overwhelmed with the outpouring of support not only from fellow Republicans but independents as well.

“Ralph and I are so blessed to have the support of these fine gentleman. It has been so wonderful to work with people that share the same passion for the people as they do. Standing side by side with them and the thousands and thousands of people that have supported us is awe-inspiring and we are so thankful,” said Inos.

Torres said the increasing number of endorsements only means that their message is being received loud and clear.

“The endorsements today combined with the endorsement of Gov. Babauta, Juan Torres, Ed DeLeon Guerrero and Daniel Quitugua, Juan I. Tenorio, Juan S. Reyes, and the thousands more over the past week show that our message of ‘Solutions Driven Leadership’ is resonating. We look forward to continuing our clean campaign devoid of frivolous and personal attacks,” he said.
