All government workers can look forward to the weekend for a change after the Department of Finance was able to disburse payroll for all government employees today.
“Fortunately, there was enough cash collections to fund the cost of payroll. This is due in part to increased cash flow from end of the month tax collections and the ongoing 16-hour per work week reduction imposed on majority of the executive branch employees,” said press secretary Angel Demapan.
He, however, cautioned that the government’s financial woes are by no means a thing of the past. “The central government recognizes that we are not completely out of the woods in terms of finances. Therefore, we will continue to carefully monitor our limited resources as well as other expense obligations that need to be satisfied.”
The government has suffered delays in its payroll for non-critical employees since une 2010 primarily due to limited cash in government bank accounts and other obligations that need to be met first, including hospital and utilities needs.
Non-critical service employees usually receive their paychecks on the Wednesday right after their supposed Friday payday.
