Two of the main visitor attractions of the Northern Mariana Islands, golf and diving, were the focus of recent media familiarization tours.

Buzz Golf, a high fashion Japanese golf magazine targeting beginning women golfers, was on Saipan and Rota in June. The group lodged at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort, where they had a photo shoot, as well as at Rota Resort and Country Club, Kingfisher Golf Links, Saipan Country Club, Coral Ocean Point Resort, and Marianas Country Club.  The magazine also shot at Hafa Adai Shopping Center, Athlete’s Foot, Star Sands Plaza, Obyan Beach, and Saipan Beach Pathway. On Rota, the media team visited the Swimming Hole, Teteto Beach, Rota Bird Sanctuary, and Taga Beach.

Marine Diving magazine of Japan also brought an editor/writer, photographer, and model to Saipan last month. In addition to shooting two or three dives each day at popular dive spots, the team covered the 1st Swimming Festival in Managaha on June 28. Other shooting locations included Hyatt Regency Saipan, Cha, Star Stands Plaza, Mariana Ocean, Hard Rock Café Saipan, Garapan Street Market, SandCastle Saipan, and parasailing on Managaha island. The magazine also visited several dive shops: Blue Sea Sports, Super Fish Diving, CMLC ARTHA, Scuba Element, S2 Club, Sea Shore, Wondersea, Peace Divers, and Make Sure Diving. The swimming festival and other coverage will appear in the Aug. 10, 2014, issue of the magazine, which has a circulation of 170,000 copies.

In addition, filming is underway this week for a new destination video for the Northern Marianas that will be premiered in September 2014 at Tourism Expo, Japan’s largest annual travel fair. (MVA)
