Golden Week draws Japan charters
To support increased demand for travel to the Northern Mariana Islands, Asiana Airlines operated 12 extra flights from Narita and Osaka during the Golden Week holiday.
From April 29 to May 8, Asiana flew 10 extra flights from Narita with 171 seats per flight. On May 2 and 5, Asiana also brought in two extra flights from Osaka with 171 seats per flight, for a total of 2,052 additional air seats into Saipan.
“Golden Week is one of the top vacation periods for the Japan markets, and we are pleased to again have received charter flights during this period,” said Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “In addition, we are working toward the launch of new airline service in the coming months.”
Jin Air will launch direct flights from Seoul on June 9, 2016. Philippine Airlines will launch twice weekly direct flights from Manila on June 15, 2016. And East Star Airlines will commence direct flights from Seoul on in July 2016.
The MVA continues its negotiations with airlines in Japan to increase flight services from that major market, and is developing an incentive program with the Office of the Governor and the Commonwealth Ports Authority for new air service from the market. (PR)
