Golden Boot, Glove winners feted

Five players went home with the Golden Boot awards, while three received the Golden Glove trophies at the conclusion of the Saipan Soccer School’s 2017 Youth Summer Futsal Tournament last Saturday at the TSL Sports Complex.
Andruw Omelau of boys U16 division champion 4Gives led the list of Golden Boot awardees after collecting a tournament-best 25 goals. Guine Borja of girls U17 winner F. Marinos nearly matched Omelau’s output with her 24 to take the Golden Boot award in her division. In the co-ed U12 age group, the winners were SSS’ Sean Gil and Audrey Castro and Kanoa Football Club 1’s Sophia Quintos. Gil gained 17 goals, while Castro and Quintos scored one apiece.
In the Golden Glove contests, HK SSS’ Jonathan Mindanao had the most saves with 159 and topped the boys U16 division. F. Marinos goalkeeper Carla Ballesteros recorded 100 saves to earn the Golden Glove award in the girls U17 division, while the 108 saves of Kanoa Football Club 1’s Paulo Quidato gave him the same trophy in the co-ed U12 category.
Meanwhile, team awards were also presented at the closing ceremonies of the futsal tournament. The Fair Play award in the co-ed U12 went to SSS, while HK SSS and Isamu United got the similar recognition in the boys U16 and girls U17 age groups, respectively.
The perpetual trophies for the champion teams were handed to Kanoa FC 2 (co-ed U12), 4Gives FC, and F. Marinos and their players were given medals, too. Saipan Elite and Marianas Health Armada also received medals for their runner-up finishes in the boys U16 and girls U17 divisions. 4Gives defeated Saipan Elite in the finals, 8-4; F. Marinos edged Marianas Health Armada, 2-1; and Kanoa FC 2 downed SSS, 4-0.
